Road Through Shadow
This is two minutes worth of one of the most popular pieces from the tour. We've improvised everything from five to 15 minutes worth, and it's a lot of fun to play around with.
This particular sample was done with Lizzy back in Canada and Leslie off to Uruguay with Gisel, so the percussion is largely Chuck, including some nicely understated open-hand spankage of the skins. (That's "span-KAAAHHJJ", dahling.)
Road Through Shadow is about "ease-of-movement" through tight space, an allusion to Hamid's run to Leon & Suzanne's tent. It's about how home-court advantage doesn't guarantee victory, and why a drop of water is an ocean when life is viewed in the rear-view mirror.
The 'drop of water' insight didn't come from me, it came from my dear friend and colleague, Terry MacDonald. Thanks, TC! :)
Enjoy! - KLM
